CAIRO, EGYPT — The global downstream stainless steel fabrication landscape is undergoing a major structural realignment. Turkey-based stainless steel kitchenware giant Ukinox has officially finalized a contract to invest $14 million to establish a state-of-the-art stainless steel kitchen sink manufacturing plant within Egypt’s premier Sokhna Industrial Zone.

According to an official press release from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the massive production site will span 37,000 square meters, leveraging Egypt’s highly strategic geographic position and tariff-free trade networks to target domestic, Middle Eastern, African, and Western European import markets.

1.2 Million Stainless Steel Sinks Annually: Global Export Engine

The historic agreement was officially signed at the SCZONE headquarters in the New Administrative Capital by Walid Youssef, Managing Director of the Main Development Company (MDC)—the primary developer for Sokhna—and Orhan Hakoglu, Chairman of Ukinox, under the auspices of SCZONE Chairman Walid Gamal El-Din.

The structural rollout of this advanced metalworking facility includes several high-impact parameters:

  • Production Launch Window: The initial operational phase is scheduled to commence in mid-2028.

  • Target Output Capacity: Once fully built out, the automated plant will manufacture 1.2 million high-end stainless steel kitchen sinks annually.

  • Local Employment Impact: The manufacturing base will initially create 220 direct jobs for specialized Egyptian engineers and metalworking technicians.

As reported by regional business intelligence platform ZAWYA / Daily News Egypt, this partnership represents a major breakthrough in SCZONE’s ongoing industrial policy to localize advanced engineering industries and build robust export-oriented ecosystems.

Why Sokhna? Three Strategic Advantages for Stainless Steel Fabricators

Industrial manufacturers are increasingly looking to relocate their secondary processing and metal-stamping lines to the Sokhna Industrial Zone due to three distinct competitive advantages:

  1. Immediate Seaport Integration: Situated adjacent to the critical Sokhna Port, raw materials—such as high-quality stainless steel cold-rolled coils (CRC)—can be seamlessly imported, while finished kitchenwares are swiftly containerized and shipped along busy maritime lanes.

  2. Bypassing Global Trade Barriers: Amid the full rollout of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and high anti-dumping tariffs on direct Asian steel shipments, performing “value-added deep processing” within Egypt allows manufacturers to utilize the country’s extensive Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

  3. Advanced Turnkey Infrastructure: The industrial zone, managed by the Main Development Company, offers massive pre-existing utilities, stable heavy power grids, and localized supply chains that radically reduce the upfront capital expenditure (CAPEX) for foreign direct investors.

Market Outlook: Downstream Stainless Demand Remains Resilient

Analysis of localized manufacturing shifts compiled by Amwal Al Ghad indicates that despite raw material price fluctuations on international commodity exchanges, end-user demand for high-durability stainless steel building and kitchen products remains incredibly firm.

Ukinox’s strategic expansion into Egypt highlights a growing trend of regionalized finishing hubs. For primary stainless steel mills and raw coil suppliers, this new mega-facility represents a highly secure, high-volume consumer of industrial flat-rolled steel for the next decade.
